The “Mark’s Driving School” is proud of its teaching staff – a team of experienced instructors and practitioners who not only impart theoretical knowledge but also share their personal experience of working in the long-distance transport sector. In this article, we talk to Grzegorz Smolinski, our distinguished theory instructor, whose achievements and teaching methods make him one of the best in the field of training international drivers.

Grzegorz, you started training drivers back in 1999. What inspires you to continue this work for so many years?

– I approach my work as a mission. I teach future international drivers not just how to operate a vehicle and work with a tachograph, but I also share secrets on how to feel the road and anticipate potential risks. The enthusiasm of my students and their desire to grow professionally always inspire me to new achievements in education.

You studied at the University of Economics and the Aleksander Gieysztor Academy of Humanities and defended two doctoral dissertations related to road safety. How does your academic experience help you in your teaching activities?
– The academic approach allows me to understand more deeply the causes of road incidents and methods of preventing them. I try to pass this knowledge on to my students. For example, we analyze not only the rules but also the psychological aspects of driving, which is especially important for professional drivers working long distances.

Since 2012, you have been conducting theoretical training. How do you keep drivers’ attention during the theoretical block?

– I always try to include interactive elements in the theoretical blocks, such as video analysis of real road situations, tests, and simulators. In addition, my experience of working in different countries allows me to bring an international context and comparisons, which makes the training more global and applicable.

What, in your opinion, is the most important thing in preparing drivers seeking to obtain Code 95?

– The key element is understanding that training is not a one-time process, but continuous development and adaptation. It’s important not only to study current rules and techniques but also to constantly monitor changes in legislation and technology, which is an integral part of the Code 95 preparation program.

Grzegorz, given your extensive experience in training and developing educational materials, what courses or programs would you especially recommend to drivers seeking to obtain Code 95?

— I definitely recommend courses that combine theoretical training with practical simulations. For example, at Scania, we used advanced technology to teach truck driving in various road conditions. Such programmes not only allow you to acquire the necessary knowledge, but also to experience its application in practice, which is critical for driving safety. In addition, I would recommend courses that focus on occupational safety and freight transport regulations, as they provide a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the profession of an international driver. By the way, I share a lot of information during the Code 95 training course.
Grzegorz, what wish would you like to convey to your future students who are about to start a preparation course for obtaining Code 95?
– I would like to wish all my future students, first of all, persistence and openness to new knowledge. In this profession, it’s important not only to be able to operate a vehicle but also to understand how your decisions affect road safety. Remember that every kilometer of your journey adds to your experience. Be attentive, stay calm in difficult situations, and always strive for self-improvement. Our course will give you a solid foundation, but true mastery will come with the experience you will accumulate every day. Good luck on the roads and remember that your work is of great importance!
