◼ What are the operating modes of the Tachograph and what are they for
There are only 4 operating modes of the Tachograph: “Driving”, “Work”, “Rest”, “Availability”. And here it is necessary to provide for several key points.
1. The Tachograph itself switches to the “Driving” mode when the vehicle starts moving, and switches to the “Work” mode when the vehicle stops. You can see this on the Tachograph printout.
2. If the driver makes a stop to rest from driving or for lunch, it is imperative to set the “Rest” mode (if the Tachograph does not switch to this mode itself). Otherwise, the controlling authorities may consider that the driver did not take such a break, which means that he either ignored the vehicle driving time standards, or violated the requirements for the duration of the shift. Both are fined in accordance with the law.
Important to know! While parked with the engine running, the “Work” mode continues to be active, so the driver must switch to other modes manually.
3. If the stop is related to the performance of work duties, it is necessary to independently set the “Availability” mode (for example, during loading/unloading, while waiting for paperwork). The “Availability” mode allows you to reduce working time sometimes even up to 50% (from this mode). Less working time means less likelihood of violating work and rest режимы. So you should not neglect the “Availability” mode.

The listed modes are recorded in the device’s memory with the time indicated to the nearest minute. This information is evidence that the driver complies with, or ignores, the norms of time and rest established by law.
